Meltdown Software is currently undergoing a server migration. Whilst everything should work, the site may experience moments of downtime.
Despite the promise two years ago, I have now opened up a separate site dedicated purely to web development.
Meltdown Tech is my new site, dedicated only to web development, you will in the future find articles, links and examples all relating to the field of web development.
I hope to see you all there soon!
Meltdown Software will soon be launching a Web Development section!
As I personally improve my programming skills I have ventured into the world of PHP. To air my thoughts and developments I am opening a subdomain to Meltdown Software. web.meltdownsoftware.co.uk will act as the original site has, hosting my applications and such.
This is a great development, and I hope to see you al there after completion.
As you may have realised the code samples section has disappeared from the links menu, as I dont believe having samples in this form is the best of ideas I am changing this section to link back to examples made available on the internet.
Instead of users submitting code they will be able to submit links, of code samples, project samples and also tuorials in PDF format of which will be distributed to the relvant sections of the website.
Meltdown Software is now GZip enabled!
GZip is a technology hidden behind your browser that allows download speed of data to be significantly increased
If you would like to see the result of the transfer click here
You may have realised we have a new section open
The Code Sample section will, when completed allow all Meltdown Software users to share their own code samples, with other programmers
Currently we only have a few samples, however this is going to increase. Also the current system does not allow users to post their own code, but this will be on its way very soon
As you may have realized, Meltdown Software has a redesigned web site.
The reason behind this is the old design did not use colours appropriately; it also did not restructure to the users browser resolutions.
Now the website is easier to use, uses colours and images to aid user friendliness and it also allows users to use resolutions from 800 by 600.
These are not the only changes associated with the recent redesign, whilst making the website easier to use, we also implemented a bespoke click tracker, error handler, feedback area and a content management system. These features will provide a consistent design throughout the website, whilst minimising and effectively handling errors.
As with all new redesigns there are bound to be some problems, if you discover one, please report it using the feedback section.
From this point onwards the forum will no longer be open. This is because any support is now provided within the web site itself, making the forum redundant.
To increase my PHP skills I created a click tracker that counts the amount of people who download my applicaitons, I had a prebuilt system originally, however rebuilding it meant i learnt a bit, and it would be to me exact needs. This was completed and implemented today, and I personally feel like i have achieved something. I may release this for public use sometime.
I am currently implementing a feedback system, this will allow you to send issues, bugs, suggestions and comments back to myself regarding all of my programs and also the website. This feature will also be intergrated within all availble programs so errors can be resolved quickly.
As I personally improve my PHP skills I have decided to use MySQL to store the data for the website, as you read this the data is not actually being drawn from the page, instead it is coming directly from the MySQL database.
I hope to enable this technology for as many sections of the website as possible.
Meltdown Software is now fully compliant with the W3C CSS guidelines. A long day coding the main HTML to meet standards ultimately dragged the CSS with it, not bad going for 15 minutes extra work.
I have decided to stop the RSS feed, it would have been an advantage if the site was bigger, but this obviously isn't the case.
After months of saying I would make the site W3C valid, we are finally half way there. Started on the Saturday evening, just have to created a huge CSS and we will be done. FYI expect some design changes and discrepancies over the next few days.
Meltdown Software is now fully compliant with the W3C HTML 4.01 guidelines. After a day of almost solid coding, we know have a more efficient, quicker web site. The CSS validation will follow shortly.
There is now a new section called 'Tutorials', this section contains tutorials written by myself. You may also email me your own tutorials, I will be more then happy to host the for you, you get the credit as well.
Have been interested in making the site W3C valid, meaning the source code behind the scenes is perfect. This will mean web pages will display better in all browsers, and also that there should be less errors. So keep an eye out for the the W3C logo.
There is now a new section called 'Samples', this section contains small samples written by myself. However the point of this section is where small projects which have been written to explain the use of a component etc, and in every case, source code will be available.
As you may notice the site has changed a little, the colouring of the design has changed, we have a new logo, but most importantly the site format has changed from HTML to PHP, allowing faster update speeds for me, and quick browsing speeds for you.
There is now a brand new search facility. Provided by Google it allows both Web and Site Search, however at the moment the Site Search facility may not work. This is caused because it takes times for Google to place an image of Meltdown Software into its search cache, a search cache where a search engine keeps image of the web sites registered with that search engine. Rather that the engine searching the entire web, it simple searched its cache files and makes references to those specific site.
As you can obviously see (if you saw the old site) we have changed out design. This is because content on the old design was not displaying properly. Not only that it was difficult to view when a users screen resolution was under 1024 by 768. With the new design internal and external links are easier and faster to access, all content is displayed sorted, so it is easier to find the information you want.
After what seemed like months looking I have finally found a forum board. It is called Invision, a popular board from a few years ago, so now we have a forum, post away!
Like all new projects Meltdown Software had some teething problems. The FTP server has been playing up, and due to my stupidity i couldn't access the FTP site via Internet Explorer because i had FrontPage extensions installed. This has delayed me a little, but i have uploaded one project, of which can be found at the downloads section.
The Meltdown Software web site is finally online, its been only a week since the original idea, and 2 days since the web site was registered, so everything so far has been rushed to get online a.s.a.p. At the moment I am simply writing each page, ready for when the site is in full swing, most of the site is still under wraps, as the home page is currently starting on the Meltdown error page, so until you see this news statement you may as well think the site is down. The design and writing of the site is a relatively easy job, the hardest part will be modifying, adapting and uploading the current programs and applications I have. This could take a while, and I am predicting that the date of which most of the uploading will be complete is the 31st of January 2005.
There is soon to be more sections added to the main site. Some which are certain and others which may or may not appear on the site. The certain one is a search facility, I have been looking for a decent web site search engine for a while now, I have chosen to use Goggle's as it is the most popular. I may also included Ask, and AltaVista. Another section I may include is a forum, however this is an uncertain one, as I may need to upgrade the site, which is impossible with the budget I set out on. Also I again cannot afford forum software such as vBulletin, but there are some free forum software out there, I will have to give them a try.
Important Notice: Due to a site design change some new sections feature in this event will not be introduced, instead panels will be used, as you can see panels, like those to the left and right of the main page are more efficient then new pages alone, and in due time these sections, if feasible will soon be featured in a content.
